Digital Dream at flagship shopping center in Paris

The new Digital Dream™ at the heart of Paris’ Westfield Les 4 Temps shopping center features an impressive 250 sqm LED screen powered by WATCHOUT 7.

When Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, a global leader in commercial real estate, wanted to offer an entertaining experience to visitors at its French flagship mall they turned to renowned AV integration provider, Videlio. The new Digital Dream in the very heart of the Westfield Les 4 Temps shopping center in Paris La Défense features a 250m² LED screen and immersive audio to create an experience that is “more extra, less ordinary”!

Described as the largest immersive and interactive screen in Europe, the 37 million pixels display information relating to the center, advertising campaigns and even artistic works. Videlio entrusted Videmus, the Dataton premium partner in France, with the implementation of the media servers and the show-control system for the project. The backbone is Dataton WATCHOUT 7 which is used to compose and manage creative, advertising and event content.

Benoit Dauvergne, CEO at Videmus, has worked with version 7 since its staged rollout in 2023 and knew it would be a perfect fit for the project. “The asset versioning capabilities in version 7, as well as video transcoding and optimization capabilities, ensure greater flexibility by allowing more codecs to be used to send files and ensuring smooth playback before delivery.”

The shopping center is open every day, all year round and receives some 42 million visitors per year. The mammoth task of installation therefore had to take place during the night for safety purposes and minimum disruption to business. Maxime Dixneuf, project manager at Videlio-Scénotechnique: “The main challenge was the architectural work on the existing structure. It is an achievement down to the millimeter which requires very high technical standards and perfect coordination.”

With the technology in place, the next challenge was to ensure that it was both easy to update content and operate on a daily basis. A Zendeo show-control system was deployed to automate remote playback control, scheduling and content ingestion.

“Thanks to these two systems – Zendeo and WATCHOUT – working in tandem, the daily operation of this gigantic 60Hz lossless screen is as easy as a simple advertising screen,” says Benoit Dauvergne.
