Dataton shows real-time motion tracking integration at InfoComm 18

Linköping, Sweden: Dataton will give visitors to InfoComm a look at an exciting future feature within its WATCHOUT multi-display system: real-time motion tracking integration. In a striking demonstration on the booth, visitors can see WATCHOUT interacting with a CAST BlackTrax system to precision-map a complex moving object.

“The ability to integrate real-time motion tracking systems, with the very low latency we are demonstrating at the booth, is great news for the theatre, attractions and live event industries – where our WATCHOUT system is already widely used,” said David Aleksandersen, Commercial Support Manager, Dataton.

Visitors to the booth can experience – and experiment with – the new feature in an eye-catching demo using a complex 3D model in constant motion. The demo, which teams a six-camera CAST BlackTrax system, four Epson projectors and Dataton’s WATCHMAX media servers, won the rAVe 2018 Best of ISE award earlier this year for Best Concept Product. Motion tracking integration will be available in Dataton rack servers and will support systems using RTTrPM (Real-Time Tracking Protocol - Motion). Open-source RTTrPM is used to transmit positional data between tracking systems, such as BlackTrax by CAST, and Dataton media servers. The media server uses the data to ensure accurate projection-mapping on moving objects in real-time and with impressively low latency.

“It’s been possible to use WATCHOUT with tracking systems before, but with support of RTTrPM, we’re taking it to the next level. The creative possibilities really are infinite,” said David Aleksandersen, Dataton.
